Say hello to NGC 6302, the Butterfly Nebula... an exquisite nebula photographed today (September 10 in Scorpius (my rising sign!). This image was captured by the Hubble Telescope and the strange cosmic timing of this event with my birthday, our upcoming butterfly collection, and my love of geekery makes this pretty... well, cosmic! (Special thanks to Sparklecrack Central for filling me in on the scoop!)
I think it's all very cool in the grand scheme of things... and what a great day for this nebula to be revealed to us in such colorful glory by the Hubble!
