2. Reduce redness and swelling of pimples with a simple dab of cortisone cream- we’ve all got a tube of it around the house. I also prefer the natural route- a dab of my favorite Italian Lavender Oil. High Altitude French Lavender or Lavandin will also do the trick! Both of these treatments reduce redness and swelling. Lavender is also healing and anti-bacterial.
3. Yogurt Moisture Masque. No Yoplait here… Using plain, unflavored and unsweetened fresh yogurt, add one tablespoon of honey and grate 1/4 of a cucumber in a bowl. Blend well, apply to your face and leave it on for 20 minutes.
4. Reduce under-eye puffiness. The easiest way to accomplish this is with an ice cube in a plastic baggie. Apply underneath each eye alternating for 5 minutes. Voilá, instant de-puffing! Another option for tired eyes is to purchase Second Skin, a gel product that comes in sheets and is used for blisters. Refrigerate and apply to the undereye area for several minutes. Ice cubes work really well and are just about free though…
5. Instant facial refresher, for an instant rosy glow. Alternate applying a hot washcloth and a very cold washcloth for 15 seconds each, to your face. Repeat 6 times for hot and 6 for cold. The alternating temperatures increases circulation to your face and leaves you feeling refreshed!
6. Visine for red eyes and ruddy cheeks. Dilute several drops of Visine in a tablespoon of spring water, and apply to reddened cheeks with a cotton pad. Visine works by shrinking your capillaries, thus reducing redness temporarily.
7. Don’t forget your hands (or neck). Whatever beauty treatment you are using for your face (Serum, moisturizer, etc), you should also apply to your neck, décolleté and back of your hands. Your hands will always reveal your age first, so pamper them with the same special treatment that you give your face… including sunscreen!’
8. Vitamin E capsules are an inexpensive way to moisturize your cuticles and your lips. (When you run out of your favorite Aromaleigh Aromatherapy or Just the Balm, Ma’am Lipbalm, of course!). Pierce one open and apply liberally to your lips and cuticles at night.
9. Pore strips are fantastic. I love them- they work the wonders that a good facial extraction provides, with barely the price tag. But did you know that they work far better after you’ve had a hot shower? Your pores are more opened after a hot shower, and dirt and oil buildup is easier to remove.
10. Love the blow-out and want to make it last longer? You can use a dry shampoo with a price tag, or you can sprinkle some corn starch on your brush and brush it through. Both work on the same principle- they absorb oil buildup in your hair. This is also a great option for those of us who want to shampoo less to extend our hair color’s radiance, or just to use less water. There’s no need to wash your hair every day. In fact, hair is much healthier when it’s washed about 3-4 times a week!
