What are all the items above seriously missing?
hint: color!
Are you wearing the same makeup every day, always sticking to safe neutrals, wishing you could perk up your look?
If YES, then you are not alone. I have seen so many customers over the last ten years “discover” color and find their makeup and fashion choices infused with a new life.
The great thing about makeup is that if you want to change things up a bit- it’s the least costly way to do it. How often have you bought a new designer coat (in beige) that cost too much, or a new designer purse (in beige) because if you were going to spend the money, you wanted to make sure you could use it with everything? Boring. Beige should be a naughty word.
So… if you want to get a little daring but are afraid to try something new, here’s some recommendations for you:
- Buy a sample of an eyeshadow color you think you would NEVER wear. I dare you to try it… just a tiny bit, a soft accent, blend it with some neutrals on your lid. But try it. I guarantee that you’ll like it!
- If you don’t own an eyelash curler, get one. Curling your lashes will open up your eyes and make you appear more awake, fresher and younger.
- And while we’re talking eyelashes… if you’ve never tried false eyelashes, buy a pair! If you don’t want to go all out and get a full strip lash, get a demi (half) lash, or even individual lashes. Once you see your peepers in false lashes, you’ll want to wear them every day.
- More lash talk. Let me guess… you wear brown, brown/black or black mascara every day, right? Try a colored mascara… just one tube. Try it. There’s so many options this year for beautiful colored mascaras, and they really brighten up your eyes and make your eyes pop. Use them on their own, or on top of your darker color. But please try it, and use it!
- Eyeliner. You don’t wear any? You only wear brown or black? Try a color! Plum, or purple or copper or brilliant blue… wait until you see what a colorful eyeliner can do for you. Recommended: Aromaleigh Pure Drama or Drama Queen Liners, or Indelible Gel Liners.
- Try a delicate shade of eyeshadow somewhere new… like in the corners of your eyes (in a “v” shape alongside your inner lid and nose), or in a ethereal halo under your lower lashes. Better yet… start off with a “starter color” under your lower lids and advance to more colorful shades are you get more comfortable with wearing color on your eyes. Check our photo galleries to see so many beautiful looks that use color under the lower lid. It’s one of my favorite techniques!
- Brows? If you don’t get your brows tamed, it’s time to start. Having your brows shaped can take years off your face and give you a polished, sculpted look. The correct brow shape for your face is imperative.
- Lip liner. If you are wearing dark lipliner with pale lipstick, this is always a no-no. Most of the time, you can skip lipliner and just wear lipstick, but if you need that extra wear, choose a lipliner that is close to the natural shade of your lips, apply over the entire surface of your lips (not just the outline), and then apply your lip product. If you have problems with lip problems bleeding, there are several companies that make clear lipliner that is fantastic for alleviating this problem. DuWop is one that I have used.
- Have a matte issue? Are you stuck with the matte look? A little but of luminosity, properly placed and applied, is my direct command. Totally matte, heavy coverage makeup only looks good if your skin is in the condition it needs to be in have every tiny imperfection emphasized. Add a little luster in the form of a finishing powder to your routine…. Try Luminesce Divine, Metamorphosis, Illuminator or one of our Perle powders. Just a tiny bit will do. Mix it with your makeup, or apply a tiny amount with a fluffy brush around the edge of your face (halo it!).
- Lastly, if there’s one makeup or beauty taboo that you have, break it. Most women feel that frost eyeshadows are an absolute no-no after a certain age. Actually, matte eyeshadows can appear far more aging than frost shadows, which lighten and diffuse light in the fine lines and wrinkles of your eyelids. When in doubt, go for a little sparkle… you’ll be glad you did.
- Do not be afraid! Makeup washes off and samples are inexpensive and ship for free!
